Tiger's Reputation Takes Hit Kia Tyus

Tiger Wood’s Image Takes a Turn for the Worst

Tiger Woods is arguably the best golfer to ever play the game. He worked hard to keep his morals and remain humble throughout his rapid rise to fame. Woods often looked to his father for advise when things got tough.

My question is, is it right to put pressure on celebrities to maintain a perfect image? Do we have the right to judge anybody on his or her wrong doings?

Woods was caught in a cheating scandal when his wife broke his car windows with a golf club, which some says resulted in Woods getting into a minor accident. Soon after many women came forward to say that Woods did indeed participate in sexual acts with them. Woods entered a rehab for sex addicts. Can you really be addicted to sex? Did Woods do this because he really had a problem? Or, did Woods do this because his image was now damaged for the first time in his career?

Personally, I feel like we but pressure on celebrities to be perfect, when God is the only perfect person. I don’t agree with what Woods did but he can’t get away from it. Now every time he plays poorly or is seen with his new girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, his poor behavior in his past is brought up.

How is he supposed to move on when it consistently gets brought up? If you made a mistake, how would you feel if people around you consistently brought up your mistake? I feel like the world is kind of hypocritical when comes to celebrities and what they consider right and wrong. What do you think?

  1. I do think we as a society but pressure on celebrities to be perfect. Celebrities especially athletes are viewed at as a role model to many people so I do think they do need to be perfect. But on the other hand I do think that everyone makes mistakes and people shouldn't be overlooked because they make one mistake. Depending on the mistake and the actions that occurred I think certain celebrities should be "let off the hook." Tiger Woods was looked at as a perfect celebrity and looked at as having his life together. When everything came out about the affair I think people were completely shocked that he did that. Cheating is viewed at as a horrible thing in many peoples eyes and this is why I think he is now viewed as a negative role model. Being a celebrity you should understand that everyone is watching you at all times and anybody can find out anything about you. Thats the consequences of being a celebrity. Normal people can do this kinda stuff because they won't be really looked at in a negative manner because no one is going to find out. But in a celebrities life you are watched 24/7. I think what Tiger Woods did was completely wrong but what I don't know is if he should be forgiven for it.

  2. Fans put a tremendous amount of pressure on athletes. We expect them to preform there best every time they participate and we also expect them to be this image of a perfect person. We look up to athletes to be just like them but as soon as they do something wrong all of the time spent looking up to these people is thrown out the window and we lose all respect for them. I remember when the whole Tiger Woods situation happened. I remember losing a lot of respect for Tiger but slowly over time I regained respect and today I can say I have about the same respect for him then before the situation happened. I think it just happens over time that we get over problem and forgive them for their actions and start to cheer for them again. I have to believe it was the same with Michael Jordan when we found out about his gambling problem. I was to young when it happened but now a day you don’t hear about this situation and it seems that people forgot about the problem.

  3. Tiger Woods definitely made a big mistake in cheating on his wife. Even though the media does put a lot of pressure on celebrities to be perfect, I still think it is Tiger Woods to be blamed because he didn’t let the public see who he really is. Tiger Woods presented himself as a perfect family man, but still he cheated on his wife. Not all celebrities pretend to be different in front of the public. For example, Marshawn Lynch, the running back from the Seattle Seahawks, has been arrogant and reluctant against the media. Lynch doesn’t hide his real personality; he is being who he really is. People do talk about his poor relationship with the media and his arrogant personality, but mainly focus on his on-field performance in general. In my opinion, the media does put a lot of pressure on celebrities, but on the other hand, celebrities have choices to be what the media pressures them to be, or keep being who they are.

  4. I do not believe that it is right to put so much pressure on celebrities to be perfect. They are people just like we are and can make mistakes too. I think that the Tiger Woods situation got blown way out of proportion. He didn’t do anything that hundreds of other men don’t do. The problem with Tiger though was that he had maintained such a perfect image before this that people were shocked to find out that he actually is not perfect. I also do not believe sex addiction is a real thing. I think that was Tigers way out of really dealing with what he had done. It was an excuse that he made up to make what he had done not seem quite so bad.

  5. I think that people think that athletes should be held to a higher standard than regular people. I think that athletes are always in the spotlight and they should be trying to make the best decision to put a positive outlook on themselves. In today's world it is extremely hard for athletes to not have any dirt on them because of all the technology that we have at our fingertips. Being an athlete myself I always have to think twice before doing something because I know that someone is either watching me or will find out anything that I do. Tiger Woods is the perfect example of an athlete that most would think he is the perfect role model then all of these negative things come out and ruin his image. Tiger went from being one of the most loved athletes to becoming one of the most hated athletes due to his poor judgement off the course. Tiger has even struggled on the course since the incident and I just think that athletes need to make the best decisions in order to perform on and off the course.
