Introduction: Dalton Collins

Tuesday January 20,2015

My Name is Dalton Collins and I am from Napoleon, Ohio. About 20 minutes west of Bowling Green. I am a commuter student so I make this 20 minute trip for class.

Sports that I did in high school were soccer for 4 years, tennis for 4 years and basketball for 1 year. I also participated in a sport, which was not associated with my school, which was horse showing. I have participated in horse showing the longest of all of these, being raised around them my entire life and showing since I was around 6 years old. My father and I traveled across the entire country showing at the highest level of competition. I have won then world’s largest single breed horse show in the country, which is located in Columbus Ohio, called The All American Quarter Horse Congress. My favorite sport in high school was soccer. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and have always been in love with it since I started. I liked soccer so much because my older brother played it and it was something that we could do together. Tennis was a game that I started my freshman year because I had a few friends on the team. I never took the game to serious at first but then I got pretty good at it so I started playing it year round and earned the number 1 doubles team on my team my junior year and then senior year I moved to number 1 singles. And lastly I played basketball my freshman year. Basketball is my favorite game to watch but I was never to good at it.

The Female athlete I would pay to see is Hope Solo. I think that she is an incredible soccer player and is a female icon for the United States of America. She plays the game that I love to play and she is also good looking.

The male athlete that I would pay to see is Anthony Davis. I am a huge Kentucky Fan and have been to a few games but I didn’t get a chance to see him in college. I believe he will be the best player in the league in the next few years so I plan on seeing him soon.

I do not have any concerns with the class as of this time.

  1. I think it is awesome that you participated in horse showing. As someone who grew up in Chicago, I didn’t have too much access to that sort of competition team. However, my mother grew up on a farm and I always have found the sport of horse showing was incredibly interesting. The only exposure I had to horses in sport was horse racing which I would go with to my family every once and awhile. I would like to learn more about what you had to do and what sort of training you encountered while participating in horse showing.
I used to play soccer as well and I have to say that Hope Solo was someone I greatly looked up to through my time as a varsity soccer player. She had such commitment to the game and you could always tell she was doing something she loved. I believe that we need more players in women’s athletics who’s passion can be shown to other young women like Solo’s.

  2. Dalton,

I'm glad you shared about showing horses because I noticed that you were wearing a jacket or shirt the other day that said something about Equestrian. I was going to ask you about that. I would be interested to hear more about the competitions in that sport. Do males and females compete with or against one another? I'm glad you love soccer and hope that we will talk about it more in class. We will be discussing Hope Solo, but not just about her soccer skills, unfortunately. I can understand why you like Anthony Davis. I have heard people say he may be the 3rd best player in the NBA already (behind only LeBron and Kevin Durant). That is impressive.

I look forward to reading your future entries.
