Introduction: Marcus Cade

My name is Marcus Cade and I am from Cleveland, Ohio.

In high school I played football, basketball, baseball, and also competed in track and field. In all 4 sports that I participated in, I was a varsity letterman. Sports were a huge part of my life growing up and in high school. During week 6 of my senior year campaign in football, I tore every ligament in my left knee causing my career to come to an end. All the years of hard work and scholarships down the drain. Though my career came to an end I enjoyed all of the post-game interviews, all the football camps, and accolades while it lasted.

Since my recovery I have competed in a few intramural leagues to stay active here and there.
Though he left Cleveland the first time in a disrespectful fashion, my favorite male athlete is Lebron  James. He is one of the best athletes to ever pick up a basketball, or any ball for that matter. He is very humble and is a natural leader. Players love to not only play with him, but to also be around him. He’s a big kid at heart, but a big man on the court. I have actually met him in person a few times. My cousin in law played basketball with him at St. Vincent- St.Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. His name is Willie and he played power forward. He was a part of the “Fab Five”.

My favorite female athlete is Lauren Hill.  She is a collegiate basketball player that is battling cancer. She shows tremendous heart in a her ability to play basketball despite her struggle. That shows passion and determination to go out and get what you want in life. She’s my role model.

  1. Nice to meet you Marcus. I really enjoyed your post about Lauren Hill. I think she shows that there is more to college sports then just winning and losing. I though it was really neat how Mount St. Joseph's moved their game up so that they could play. I think that showed that the whole organization and university really cares about her. After your post and youtube clip about her I did some more research about her and her story and what she has been doing recently. I found that since she is not playing anymore the team has allowed her to stay on as an assistant coach. I think that is an awesome gesture from the basketball program. I, like you, think she shows tremendous heart in everything she has been through and hope more people hear and get to know her story.
I attached a clip about her being an assistant coach.

  2. Marcus,

I was sorry to learn that your football career was terminated by the injury that you had. It's great that you were able to appreciate the opportunity to play when you did. That is cool that your cousin-in-law played with LeBron James and that you were able to meet him. Apparently Chris Bosh is not one of the players who loves to play with him but that may be 'sour grapes.'

I appreciate your sharing about Lauren Hill's story. I googled her to see where she is today and found this: http://www.people.com/article/lauren-hill-raises-million-dollars-for-cancer [Apparently she surpassed her goal of bringing in over $1,000,000 for cancer research]. That was a selfless campaign.
Thanks for sharing about these two athletes.
